Wednesday, 01/01/2020 - Requesting Meeting Topics...

Please let us know what you are interested in!

For the past few years the executive board has tried to bring a variety of topics. We would like to know what the membership is interested in and then we can work to line up presentations and speakers.

Wednesday, 01/01/2020 - Time to stop smoking

For young adults who have an addiction to nicotine, they're caught between a rock and a hard place. No longer can they purchase tobacco or vape products which means they'll have to either quit smoking, or break the law. Smoke shop owners think it's likely many of the now-underage consumers will continue to use the products they like. Local doctors are hoping the change in age requirements will get younger people to stop smoking rather than ignore the rules. To stop smoking, we would recommend to buy chantix with either patches or gums to ease that transition into no longer smoking. Some doctors believe the change will bring in more patients but, ultimately discourage younger smoking.

We've got two outstanding speakers lined up for the day:

Special Agent Kevin Swindon is a specially trained expert in computer search and seizure and is a member of the FBI's Computer Analysis Response Team (CART). SA Swindon was involved in both the investigation of the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal Reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan and the investigation of the 2001 murders of Dartmouth professors Susanne and Half Zantop. I'm told he'll be discussing these cases as well as general procedures and concerns in the use of computer forensics.

George Markowsky, Ph. D. is the Professor and Chair of Computer Science and the Professor and Chair of Mathematics at the University of Maine. Prof. Markowsky also heads up the University of Maine Homeland Security Lab - a driving force dedicated to carrying out research that can help anticipate and protect against terrorist attacks and other disasters state- and nationwide. The Professor will be presenting on some of the projects the labs has in the works as well as discussing what he perceives as the challenges as the state and country move forward.

During the final portion of the meeting, we'll be discussing the Infragard National Congress this August in Washington D. C. We'll also be distributing the new Membership cards! It's shaping up to be the most interesting meeting yet - be sure to put it on your schedules!

Sincerely,
